Douglas Hutton...... Contemporary Landscape Artist

I work from a range of sketches and ideas which can be in colour, pen, pencil or paint gathered from hill walks and beach walks. These loose studies complimented with photographs form a starting point in the studio where I work up into a loose composition in outline in a series of small scale studies. From these I build my final idea and work directly on the canvas or board starting at the top with a sky which will dictate the tone and mood of the arrangement. From here it is a tempestuous struggle through to conclusion (framing or incineration!) over a period of time which can be hours, weeks or months.
